Spellbound

The motivations of the kids in spellbound can vary from motivation of their parents to self-motivation. In the movie Spellbound, Neil is determined as has some selfmotivation, but his dad has a greater impact on his motivation. Throughout the movie his dad has exersizes for Neil to do everyday to prepare for the spelling bee. His dad is strict and puts a lot of pressure on Neil to do well in the bee because it is his last year to compete. Neil places ninth in the bee so in the end he reached his father's goal but more importantly his goal as well. Angela is a student who represents self motivation. Throughout the journey she was motivated herself and was proud of herself for just making it to the national spelling bee. She came from a small town and had no pressure from anyone to win the bee, she just wanted to do it for herself. The students motivation can be portrayed through self-motivation or through the influence of others.
